Ozone Ozone is a pale blue coloured gas, which naturally occurs in earth’s highest atmosphere to protect us from harmful sunlight and is produced during thunderstorms. Ozone kills bacteria, viruses and fungi so effectively that for at least 40 years it has been used to treat drinking water, purifies most bottled water and is used to clean waste water and toxic waste. Here at Cotman House Dental Surgery we are offering HealOzone as an alternative or an adjunct to the conventional dental treatments. Ozone treatments are available subject to written consent from the patient or guardian and the initial three month monitoring of the treated teeth is included in the price and charged at the treatment appointment. There are no injections, no drilling and it’s painless, silent and fast. How is this done? – The decayed tooth is flooded by the gas which kills the decay forming bacteria. Good oral hygiene ensures that the treated tooth surface can re-mineralise (after re-mineralisation it is known to be more resistant to further dental decay). We have available special mouth rinses and toothpaste to help with this process. In a recent study it showed that almost 100% elimination of decay from a group of Case study children thus preventing any trauma from injections or the use of the drill on these children. Ozone is totally harmless as it is delivered in a small and precise concentration. Ozone may also be used in combination with other dental techniques.
